Port Phillip and Western Port bays are popular locations for boating, fishing, yachting and other aquatic pastimes. But recreational users must share the port waters responsibly with the big commercial ships visiting the ports of Melbourne and Hastings.

To help boaters enjoy their time on the water safely, Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC) has a number of measures in place:

• The boating safety program, Steer Clear.
• A Transit Only Zone in the north of Port Phillip Bay.
• Requiring formal notification of any aquatic events within Port of Melbourne Waters

And, on behalf of Transport Safety Victoria - Maritime Division, PoMC operates Coast Radio Melbourne - monitoring for distress calls and issuing weather forecasts.
