The Port of Melbourne is the critical focus of south-eastern Australia import and export links with the rest of the world. Its natural advantages and established infrastructure provide many unique advantages.
In building on these advantages, the port faces four critical challenges if it is to develop as a key driver of sustainable economic growth. These challenges are:
- to be the port of choice for cargo owners and service providers
- championing the innovative development and support of world class facilities, systems and services
- operating profitably with the financial capability to meet shareholder returns and investment and service needs
- providing a high level of physical security and environmentally and socially sustainable outcomes for the people of Victoria
