Local community sponsorships

The Port of Melbourne has shared close links with the Maribyrnong, Hobsons Bay, Port Phillip and Melbourne communities since the first trading ships docked along the Yarra River more than 150 years ago.

Today, amid unprecedented international trade growth, Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC) remains committed to building and strengthening these important local bonds. 

PoMC has undertaken a range of community sponsorships aimed at fostering its community connections while promoting fun, family and community spirit.

Yarraville Arts Festival
The Yarraville Arts Festival is an annual event that draws big crowds from around the inner west to the vibrant heart of Yarraville Village.

PoMC sponsored the Kids Kingdom stage in 2008, where the young (and young at heart) enjoyed doing what they love most: singing, dancing, playing games and dressing up.

Contempora 2
Contempora is a large-scale outdoor sculpture exhibition at Docklands that is fast becoming one of the premier installation art events in Australia, with 34 emerging and established artists participating in 2008.

The Contempora2 Public Choice Award is sponsored by PoMC this year, with the aim of encouraging community participation and supporting artistic talent.

Williamstown Festival
A highlight on the Williamstown community calendar for more than 30 years, the Williamstown Festival has grown to become one of the most popular local carnivals in Melbourne.

A feature of the festival is the Fireworks Spectacular, sponsored by PoMC in 2008. The event takes place in scenic Commonwealth Reserve, with the city skyline and the port itself forming the backdrop to the show.

Williamstown Literary Festival
As a small-scale local festival, the Williamstown Literary Festival attracts some of Australia’s leading wordsmiths for a weekend of prose, poetry and performance.

This year, PoMC is sponsoring the Peoples’ Choice Award, with the aim of supporting local writers – and readers – while helping the festival continue to grow and evolve.
