Schools On Board

Students with captain in captain's officeSchools on Board is an exciting education initiative allowing local school students to actually go on board a container ship berthed at the port's international container terminal in West Melbourne.

On board, students typically meet the captain and crew and go on a guided tour of the ship, including a visit to the ship's bridge and engine room.

This hands-on learning experience explains the role of containerised cargo in supporting exports and delivering the everyday objects to their homes.

Captain with students on shipAfter the ship visit, students are invited to the purpose-built Port Education Centre located directly opposite the container terminal. Here, they have an in-depth education session to explain the workings of Australia's busiest container port.

Schools on Board gives unique access to some of the operations of Australia's largest container and general cargo port - a rarely seen part of Melbourne.
