Bicycle tour of the port

  • Follow the route directions on a short bike tour around the outside of the Port of Melbourne to discover what goes on in the various areas of the port.

 

Historic ships and piers

Station Pier

  • The first real port in the area was at Williamstown which is proud of its shipping history.
  • Find out even more about cargo and ships in the old days at the Polly Woodside.
  • In the 1850s, thousands of immigrants arrived in Port Melbourne to start a new life. Their adventures are shown at the Immigration Museum.
  • Walk along Station Pier (see picture at right) which opened in 1854 to facilitate the transport of passengers and goods. It is now Victoria's premier sea passenger terminal.

Creatures of the bay

  • Discover the diverse aquatic marine life in Port Phillip Bay at the Melbourne Aquarium.
  • Check out the seals, fish and penguins found in the bay at the Melbourne Zoo.
  • Take a trip to Phillip Island and experience the Penguin Parade.
