Ships unloading at Swanson Dock
Swanson Dock
Taken from the Yarra River this clearly shows the massive gantry cranes used to transfer containers to and from ships. They cost about $15 million each The boom arms are raised when not in use and lowered when the ship is in position ready to be worked.

Containers stacked at the port
Giant building blocks
They look like Lego but each container is 20 foot (about 6 meters) long and can weigh over 20,000 kg The Straddle Crane in the bottom left zooms around carrying the containers around the dockside area.
