Carbon footprint

The carbon footprint for the Port of Melbourne was calculated recently by Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC), covering the estimated port-related landside and maritime carbon emissions from July 2009 to June 2010.

Measuring greenhouse gas emissions and energy use is a key commitment within PoMC’s Climate Change Policy, giving a means to adapt to a low carbon economy.

The data gathered will help identify opportunities for PoMC to work with port tenants and users to manage the port’s activities more effectively. This can be done through efficient planning, development and operation of the port.
