Safety and Environment Management Plan

In 2002, the Victorian Government amended the safety and environmental management requirements for Victorian ports, including an amendment to the Port Services Act 1995 (Vic) , in particular Section 91 D(1).

Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC) is now required to develop both an environment management plan and a safety management plan for the Port of Melbourne. As safety and environmental management is a high priority for PoMC, an integrated Safety and Environment Management Plan (SEMP) was developed, certified and introduced on 1 July 2005.

The SEMP applies a whole of port approach to improving the safety and environmental performance of all operations within the Port of Melbourne, including those under PoMC’s direct control and those on which it has influence only.

The SEMP is reviewed regularly and is supported by an active Safety and Environment Management System.
