Dangerous goods notifications

Notification of the intention to transport or handle dangerous cargoes or oils, or bunker in the Port of Melbourne, must be provided 24 hours before the arrival of cargo in the port area. Select the relevant notification form below and email to safety@portofmelbourne.com .

The purpose of this document is to assist ship owners (or their agents), stevedores and leaseholders to provide the minimum acceptable safety requirements for facilities and operating procedures when handling such cargoes to ensure the protection of individuals, installations and the environment.

This document is designed to assist ship owners (or their agents), ship management companies, ships' masters and bulk liquid terminal operators to provide the minimum acceptable safety requirements for facilities and operating procedures when handling such cargoes  to ensure the protection of individuals, installations and the environment.

Bunker transfer guidelines (incorporating ship / road vehicle liquid transfers) (PDF, 245kb)
This document is designed to assist agents, ship management companies, ships' masters, bunker barge operators and road tanker operators to carry out their responsibilities for safe operations required in the Port  of Melbourne for any bunkering or ship / road vehicle liquid transfers. All bunkering procedures are subject to inspection.

The ship’s agent arranging the bunkers must inform the ship’s master to notify Chubb Security on Telephone +61 3 9681 8044 (24 hours) one hour before the bunkering operation so that an inspection can be undertaken.

Hot work procedural guidelines (PDF, 346kb)
The aim of these procedures is to develop a best practice work environment for hot work to minimise accidents that may lead to personal injury or property damage.

Before any hot work can be undertaken within the Port of Melbourne a permit application must be obtained from the Port of Melbourne Corporation’s Health and Safety. Hot work includes welding, thermal or oxygen cutting or heating and other related heat producing or spark producing operations.
